Cape Hyuga

Cape Hyuga is a rias coast, approximately 5 km long. Umagase, located in the middle of it, is so named because it looks like a horse’s back when seen from the sea.
The huge rock crevice is 50 metres high, 10 metres wide and 200 metres deep.
If you go to the Cape Hyuga Observatory at the end of the promenade, you can see a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and the horizon.

The columnar joints that stretch across this area have been designated a national natural monument as the columnar joints of Cape Hyuga.
